Liu Changfu, the first erhu player and educator in mainland China to obtain a master’s degree, senior professor and master tutor of the Central Conservatory of Music, director of the Advisory Committee of the Erhu Society of the Chinese Musicians Association, vice president of the “Liu Tianhua Research Society” of the Chinese Musicians Association,

Engaged in erhu professional teaching work for more than 50 years, cultivated a large number of professional erhu performance and teaching talents, most of which have become the business backbone of the art academies directly under the Central Government and the teaching backbone of music schools. 

Notable students include: Zhao Ge, Tang Feng, Ye Qiang, Yu Hongmei, Ma Xianghua, Liu Yang, Lin Gan, Zhu Jiangbo, Sun Huang, Sun Ting, Han Shi, Zhou Tingting, Duan Chao, etc.

 He has written and published a large number of training etudes and solo music with distinct musical styles, and has written and published many literary theories with high academic standards. 

Advocate and practice and promote teaching-led theories such as “basic skills, application skills (including “style skills”) and second-degree creation of music”, “root carving”, “compensation first, and growth later”, promoting national instrumental music

“The Herdsman”, “Xinghua Tianying”, the Zhonghu solo song “Nostalgia”, “Outside Love”, Gaohu solo song “Yao Mountain Rain”, “Prairie Little Sister”, Banhu solo song “Happy Sending Harvest”, “Mountain Festival”, etc., among them, “New Herdsmen of the Grassland” and “Sentiment in the Outside World” have been widely circulated on the music stage at home and abroad. 

Over the years, he has recorded and published several personally wanted CDs and VCDs for many audiovisual companies at home and abroad, as well as teaching demonstration VCDs, test-level counseling VCDs, cassette tapes for personal albums, etc.

He has been invited to many music colleges such as City University of Hong Kong, Xi’an Conservatory of Music, Shenyang Conservatory of Music, Inner Mongolia Art College, Shanxi University Conservatory of Music, Tianjin Conservatory of Music, Shanghai Conservatory of Music, Xiamen University School of Art, Zhejiang Conservatory of Music, Tainan Art University, etc. 

Held many solo concerts and lectures in Hong Kong City Hall, Hong Kong Sha Tin Hall, Singapore Victoria Concert Hall, Macau Concert Hall, Toronto, Canada, Tokyo, Nagoya, Osaka and many cities in China; He has served as the jury member of the Erhu Competition sponsored by the Ministry of Culture, China Central Television and the Chinese Musicians Association several times. CCTV, Beijing Music Station, Hong Kong TV Station, Singapore TV Station, Wuxi TV Station and Kaohsiung Broadcasting Station in Taiwan have conducted special interviews and introduced his artistic achievements in performance, teaching and creation. China People’s Broadcasting Station, China International Radio stations, Beijing TV station, China Education TV and many other news media also reported on their artistic achievements and artistic roads in the form of special programs such as “Liu Changfu’s Erhu Art” and “Famous Teachers”. In October 2013, “The Spring and Autumn on the Strings-Professor Liu Changfu’s 50th Anniversary Teaching Achievement Performance Concert and Academic Symposium” was held at the Central Conservatory of Music. His life and performance have also been included in the “Chinese Contemporary Art Circle Who’s Who” “Chinese Cultural Talents Dictionary”, “Chinese Educational Experts’ Dictionary”, “Chinese Musician’s Dictionary” and Cambridge University’s “World Who’s Who”.

刘长福 中国大陆第一位获得硕士学位的二胡演奏家、教育家，中央音乐学院资深教授、硕士生导师、中国音乐家协会二胡学会顾问委员会主任、中国音乐家协会“刘天华研究会”副会长、中国民族管弦乐学会胡琴专业委员会名誉会长，西安音乐学院、天津音乐学院、四川音乐学院、内蒙古艺术学院、厦门大学艺术学院客座教授；荣获“民乐艺术终身贡献奖”(2016年8月)和第八届华乐论坛“杰出民乐教育家”（2019年10月）称号。

从事二胡专业教学工作五十余年，培养了大量专业的二胡演奏及教学人才，其中大部分已成为中央直属艺术院团的业务骨干和音乐院校的教学骨干力量。历年来其数名学生如：赵戈、唐峰、叶强、于红梅、马向华、刘扬、林感、朱江波、孙凰、孙婷、韩石、周婷婷、段超等曾多次在各种规格的国内和国际二胡大赛中获得金奖及名列前茅。

创作并发表过大量有训练价值的练习曲和有鲜明音乐风格的独奏曲，撰写和发表过许多学术水准较高的文论。倡导并实践推广“以基础技巧、应用技巧（含”风格性技巧“）和音乐二度创作为基本程序”及“根雕”、“先补短、后扬长”等教学主导理论，促进了民族器乐的教学革新。先后发表和出版过《二胡演奏中的风格性技巧》、《二胡弓法的技巧性应用》、《二胡演奏中的换把问题》、《刘天华二胡曲的演奏艺术》、《谈二胡演奏中的形象思维》等学术论文，专著《二胡演奏与教学文论选》，教程专著《儿童学二胡入门》（现为《二胡进阶初级教程》）、《跟名师学二胡》（学二胡三十课）、《二胡系统进阶练习曲集》一套（上、下册），主编了《中央音乐学院二胡（高胡、中胡）教学曲谱》（一套三册）、《中央音乐学院海内外二胡考级教程》（主编）、香港考区《二胡考级教程》（主编）、《中国音协第五套全国二胡考级教材》及其它学术论文多篇；主要的乐曲创作有：二胡独奏曲《草原新牧民》、《杏花天影》，中胡独奏曲《怀念》、《塞外情思》，高胡独奏曲《瑶山雨》、《草原小姐妹》，板胡独奏曲《喜送丰收粮》、《山乡节日》等，其中《草原新牧民》和《塞外情思》已在国内外的音乐舞台上广为流传。多年来曾为海内外多家音像公司录制出版了数张个人专缉的CD唱片和VCD光盘以及教学示范VCD、考级辅导VCD、个人专辑的盒式录音带等。

曾应邀在香港城市大学、西安音乐学院、沈阳音乐学院、内蒙古艺术学院、山西大学音乐学院、天津音乐学院、上海音乐学院、厦门大学艺术学院、浙江音乐学院、台南艺术大学等多所音乐院校及香港大会堂、香港沙田会堂、新加坡维多利亚音乐厅、澳门音乐厅、加拿大多伦多、日本东京、名古屋、大阪及国内多个城市的音乐厅举办过多场个人独奏音乐会和系列讲学活动；多年来数次担任中央文化部、中央电视台和中国音乐家协会等部门主办的二胡大赛评审委员。中央电视台、北京音乐台、香港电视台、新加坡电视台、无锡电视台和台湾高雄广播电台曾对其进行专题采访并介绍了他在演奏、教学和创作等方面的艺术成就，中央人民广播电台、中国国际广播电台和北京电视台、中国教育电视台等多家新闻媒体也以“刘长福的二胡艺术”、“名师风采”等专题节目的形式对其艺术成就和艺术道路进行了报导。2013年10月在中央音乐学院举办了“弦上春秋——刘长福教授执教50周年教学成果展演音乐会暨学术研讨会”，其生平和业绩也已载入“中国当代艺术界名人录”、“中国文化英才辞典”、“中国教育专家名典”、“中国音乐家辞典”及英国剑桥大学“世界名人录”。
