Liu Yang learned to play the erhu with his father when he was young. In 1985, he entered the secondary school affiliated to the Wuhan conservatory of music and studied under Professor Li Jianxiong. In 1991, he entered the department of folk music of the Central Conservatory of Music and studied under Professor Liu Changfu. In 1995, he joined China national broadcasting orchestra, and in 1998, he was admitted to China national orchestra. He joined the Hong Kong Chinese orchestra in 2002 and became the chief of the Chinese orchestra in 2003.

In 1982, he won the silver prize of the first national folk music instrument junior solo competition. In 1995, he won the outstanding award of erhu professional group at “Fulitong cup” international Chinese instrument solo competition. In 1995, he won the first prize of erhu national youth competition of “Tianhua cup”.

Liu Yang successfully held solo concerts in 1990 and 2000， and was participated in the "National Erhu Seminar in memory of Huang Haihuai” in Wuhan. He visited Korea and Japan as part of aorean-Japaness-Chinese delegation, the Asian Orchestra, performed as the band leader. He participated as a soloist in the "One hundred years of Erhu Concert" held by Chinese musicians association in 2002. He also performed in Austria, the United States, Germany, France, Denmark and more than 10 countries and regions.

刘扬

刘扬自幼随父习琴，1985年考进武汉音乐学院附中，师从李坚雄教授。1991年考进中央音乐学院民乐系，师从刘长福教授。1995年考入中国广播民族乐团，1998年考入中央民族乐团。2002年加入香港中乐团，2003年为中胡首席，并任中国音乐协会二胡学会理事。

刘扬在比赛中屡获殊荣，1982年获首届全国少儿民族乐器独奏比赛银奖，1995年获富利通杯国际中国乐器独奏比赛二胡专业组优秀奖，1995年获天华杯全国青年二胡比赛第一名。

刘扬分别于1990及2000年成功举办个人独奏音乐会。曾赴武汉参加“几年黄海怀逝世三十周年全国二胡研讨会”，担任独奏演出及乐队首席，参加由中日韩三国民族器乐演奏家组成的“亚洲乐团”，赴日韩演出，担任乐团首席。参加由中国音乐家协会举办的“纪念二胡百年音乐会”担任独奏。曾出访奥地利，美国，德国，法国，丹麦等10多个国和地区。
